Dubai, located south of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula, is one of the most popular and luxurious tourist destinations in Asia. There are both historical and modern aspects to this city, and plenty of attractions and sights to see.

There are number of guided bus tours in Dubai, where you can visit and appreciate the many sights and historic landmarks of the city. For example, the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper, opened in Dubai recently, and is mostly seen by tourists via tour buses. Getting around is easy as car hire in Dubai is both inexpensive and convenient from the airport.

Dubai has a rich history, and it is worth visiting a few of the many mosques, churches, and museums in the city. For example, Dubai Museum, located in the Al Fahidi Fort, is the oldest existing building in the city. As well as local antiques as old as 3000 B.C, the museum also contains ancient artefacts from African and Asian countries. The Grand Mosque is also a highly popular tourist attraction. It is considered to be the most attractive mosque in Dubai, and therefore is also the most photographed. The coastal residential area of Jumeirah also has a mosque, the Jumeirah Mosque, which is open to non-Muslims for special tours to give insights into the Islam religion.

Dubai is also known for its arts and culture, and if you are visiting the city in December you are just in time for The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF). It is one of the leading international film festivals, and continues to nurture the emerging cinema culture in Asian and African countries. This year, it will be held between the 12th and the 19th of December.

If you’re thinking of where to stay, Dubai offers a wide variety of highly luxurious accommodation. In particular, the most lavish of these is Atlantis, the Palm. It is a resort located on the artificial Palm Jumeirah Island. It is in the shape of a palm tree, and consists of a trunk, a crown with 16 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island. The island has been self-declared the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’. The Palm resort is modelled after the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas. As well as a water park and an underground aquarium, the resort also has Dolphin Bay, where guests can swim and interact with the dolphins at Atlantis.

For the ultimate shopping experience, the Dubai Mall is highly recommended. With approximately 1,200 shops, it is the world’s largest shopping mall. It’s a great way to spend the day, because in addition to shops, the mall has a number of activity centres for kids, as well as an Ice Rink, a cinema complex, an aquarium, and over 160 food and beverage options.

This luxurious and exciting city has plenty to offer to any tourist, whether you’re there for two days or two weeks.
